CRISPY PATA

CRISPY PATA

Bali’s Dining Scene continues to grow and evolve and there is always excitement in the air when a new restaurant opens. Crispy Pata had just opened for public in February this year in the former Kembang Gula Restaurant location in Silq Villa Kerobokan. Named after a very famous Filipino dish – Crispy Pata, is a chic and casual dining venue which the owner prefers to call it ‘Asian Warung style’. General Manager Rebecca Sanares and Bali based Chef Norman Lazarus both originally from Philippine and have worked in a number of other restaurant and companies before merging their skill and talent to bring little Philippine in Bali.
This décor is stylish and casual with comfortable teak chair, a communal table of ‘warung’ style, a lovely petit Ice Bar on the corner, couch with a modern edgy flair on the second floor, a replica of Philippine living room completed with its traditional knickknack, and features a delectable menu of Philippines authentic cuisine and other famous Asian delicacies including Indonesian, Singaporean, Thailand and Chinese. The place is very convenient for a lunch or dinner among friends and family, completed with high connection of free WiFi, makes this place could be a perfect alternative meeting point between colleagues while enjoying the friendly-cozy atmosphere.
While perusing the menu, we ordered a few of their specialty drinks to start, including a Balinese favorite Es Daluman – a jelly made from Daluman leaves served with palm sugar, coconut milk in shaved ice. Soon after, our enjoyable meal began with a delicious sour spicy soup, Thai Tom Yum and Fresh Lumpia – Philippine fresh vegetable wrap of mixed julienne cut vegetables which came with a sweet garlic sauce, mince fresh garlic and traditional Philippine’s pickle – made from carrot, green papaya, onion, raisin and vinegar. It was fantastic and if we had only had this excellent healthy starter, we knew we would definitely be coming back. The other most requested starter that we loved was the tasty and freshly prepared Green Mango and Salted Egg Salad – diced fresh green mangos mixed with salted egg in a zesty dressing.
As a main dish, we particularly enjoyed the Crispy Pata – a famous Filipino delicacy of deep fried pork leg which is boiled for three hours before its dried and deep fried. Served with three dipping sauces; vinegar garlic, soy sauce vinegar and Sambal Mantah (traditional Balinese chili peppers), together with steamed rice and long beans, and a cup of soup. The pork was deliciously crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside, the sides’ dishes make it even more tempting, a cup of soup with mushroom served steaming hot, gives sour and spicy taste to the palate, both perfectly complement each other. If you’re not a fan to pork, another selection you could opt for is their favorite Chicken Adobo – Filipino popular dish of chicken marinated and sautéed, served with vegetables and steamed rice. Most of the ingredients are fresh from the local market meanwhile for Filipino delicacies; they imported the original ingredients from its home country to preserve the authentic flavor.
For dessert, we picked a lovely colorful presentation of Halo-Halo or Halu Hola in Tagalog – a traditional Filipino favorite dessert of mixed sweet fruit preserves with flan and garbanzo beans in shaved ice. Different from western typical kind of dessert, Halo-Halo comes in a big bowl full of sweet ingredients; perfect choices for everyone who is still feel hungry after the refreshing starter and generous portion of their main course. The cuisine was excellent – fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. We all look forward to returning soon for lunch or dinner and for their Special Sunday which is Kare-Kare – another famous traditional Filipino beef dish that we haven’t tried it yet.
