Delighted at Delicious Onion – Bali

Delighted at Delicious Onion – Bali

We were thrilled when our fabulous friend (we will call him Ted)  told us that beside our hotel, The Harmony Seminyak, was a cheap resto where they have good PORK dishes. Maybe we’re just deprived of good pork in Jakarta, but the pork was sooo good at Delicious Onion.

THE PLACE
Traditional Balinese Shrine that you see as you enter
We ate at the same table to the left of the door everyday
Loving the mural!
Floor seating & "stage"
I always like open kitchens - means they have nothing to hide hehe
DJ's Booth
Love the painting you see as you exit the door!
THE FOOD
Left to right: Peanut Butter & Banana Shake (Rp 25,000) pretty Good, Arak Sunrise (Rp 25,000) good, Arak shot (free taste) pretty good local liqueur
Crispy Roast Pork (this was part of a meal with rice and brownies for dessert plus a drink) was so good with the special sauces it came with. The Fried Pork Gyoza (Rp 25,000) was also very good with soy sauce and vinegar sauce. Both are definitely worth ordering again... and again! =P
The Grilled Pork Ribs with 5-spice and Honey (Rp 60,000 + add Rp 5,000 for a side of rice) were average. I've had better.
This has to be the best brownie I've ever had: Mark's Homemade Super-Double-Chocolate Brownie with Coconut Cream!
Their Vanilla Shake (Rp 20,000) is the best beach shake EVER - rich but still refreshing. I don't recommend the Iced Coffee because it tasted like bad instant coffee.
Yes we ordered Crispy Roast Pork again - this time ala carte (Rp 38,000). It's that good. They serve it with hoisin sauce, garlic pandan rice, flavorful clear onion soup, vegetables on the side.
Mark's Homemade Super-Double-Chocolate Brownie with Coconut Cream (Rp 18,000) and a scoop of vanilla ice cream (add Rp 5,000). Even better with the ice cream!

Of the noodle dishes, they recommended the Char Siew Ramen (Rp 40,000). Japanese noodles in soup served with slices of braised 5-spice pork. A bit on the salty side, but I like salty so this one is pretty good for me.
The Kung Pow Chicken comes with white rice and clear onion soup (Rp 38,000). if you're not into chicken you can also ask for this in Kung Pow Shrimp.
So far this is our favorite resto find in Bali, and we’ve been to even more expensive ones. The staff are courteous and are well-trained. The dishes are good but inexpensive.  We also went one night for some live band music and it was lovely to stay in the outdoor tables and have a bottle of wine. The ambiance was great but we weren’t able to take pics because my cam was low battery already.  The Two Islands Shiraz is not bad for about Rp 300,000. The grapes are from Australia but they are bottled and aged in Bali. We wanna try the Two Islands Rose (Rp 200,000) next time!
