Established in Bali in December 2002, Down to Earth was originally a home-based kitchen. The company's idea is homemade vegetarian food that is individually packed and delivered fresh daily to various outlets around Bali. The food maintains high standards of preparation and extensive nutritional knowledge. Liat Solomon (the founder and director) is a trained nutritionist, macrobiotic educator/counselor and vegetarian chef. Sourcing and using the right ingredients is an important task. Most of the dry goods such as chickpeas and sesame tahina are imported, and the vegetables are locally grown and as organic as possible. Spring water is used for washing and sorting of the vegetables. Each and every ingredient that is put in is well thought out and the natural components are chosen by their quality. Hand harvested organic Sea Salt is used as a salting agent and as a natural preservative. Our products contain no food coloring, preservatives nor flavor enhancers.
After relocating to our new home in 2005, we began to really focus on our working environment for DTE. We do our best to treat our food right with love and care. The quality of care, attention and respect for the food, which is given during its preparation, is as important as the quality of the ingredients.

In 2003, DTE gave birth to its first restaurant ZULA vegetarian paradise. Zula gave DTEs kitchen the opportunity to practice the art of vegetarian cooking. Zula is also a health food shop that imports a wide variety of natural and health products.
Down to Earth, Zula, Earth Cafe - BaliZula is a Middle Eastern term for hospitable home. It's a place where one welcomes their friends. It's merely an invitation to enter ones home, to relax and rejuvenate with proper food and drinks. Zula is a home away from home.
We do our best in using as much organic as possible. Most of the dry goods are imported and certified organic. Since there is no national accepted and legal definition of "organic" in Indonesia we can only offer what is offered to us and trust. Mineral water is used in cooking and filtered water for washing and sourcing of the vegetables.
Another element that is used in preparation is humor. Since our kitchen is a labor intensive business, humor keeps everyone going. We put effort in planning our daily menu. The food and its preparation are based on macrobiotic understanding. It provides a wholesome, balanced meal that includes all vital nutrients, vitamins, minerals, fibers, and micronutrients.
Our "planet platter" consists of brown rice as the main fiber source, soy, protein, tofu, and tempe, beans, a variety of vegetables, sea weeds that provide all mineral and pickle vegetable that immunize your intestines with digestive enzymes. You'll find that our menu is versified with ethnic origin vegetarian cuisine and an abundance of health drinks and juices. Our desserts contain no sugar, dairy or artificial flavoring as well as the rest of the dishes.
Zula is the only place in town that is totally vegan. Therefore we are proud to say "WE DO NOT USE ANYTHING WITH A FACE OR A MOTHER".

We pride ourselves in supporting local traditional farming along with helping to educate the local community on how it is possible to improve the quality of our lives through making better choices when using natural food rather than commercial. This practice also includes basic kitchen hygiene and the effective use of unprocessed products. Eating foods that contain the natural order not only strengthens your health, but also connects you to the larger whole in that your cells resonate the big picture and your body finds its spiritual enlightenment. Earth Cafe uses organic products and produce as much as possible. Whole grains, non refined flours and sugars, and no animal products. We offer a limited choice of dairy products as an addition to the menu but do not use it in our cooking. Down to Earth Ubud is a whole life concept to cater to your family´s health food and lifestyle needs. We provide fresh organic produce each day, natural house hold products, chemical free cosmetics and health foods and treats.
