Bali drinks: Ku De Ta

Ever-popular Ku De Ta is probably one of the most recommended places on the island — “Dahhhhling, you must go for sunset cocktails!” — and it’s true, you probably should at least once. It’s a stunningly situated restaurant and bar overlooking a decidedly enticing stretch of beach and at sunset, in the right light, it’s close to unbeatable.

BUT

Ku De Ta gets busy, very very busy, and attracts a very diverse crowd ranging from the welcoming, friendly and cool right through to those who are neither welcoming, friendly nor cool — and the crowd isn’t to everyone’s liking.

SO

Try it once, early in your stay, and you’ll know pretty quickly if you want to return every afternoon or never again.

Sunset at Ku De Ta on Bali

Personally we enjoy it on Sundays, which are designated as kids days, with a jumping castle, balloons and activities for the kids, while the parents nurse themselves through the morning after the night before. The breakfasts are good, very good in fact, but not cheap (well, nothing is cheap here actually).

Lunch and dinner are equally good, if not better (award-winning, in fact), but expect a full dinner here with drinks to hit the wallet hard. If you like the scene, we’d say drink here often but only eat once — as there’s equally good dining elsewhere at similar prices or less.

Oh, and a quick word on the service: excellent.
