This Ubud institution was once the place to go for expats looking to while away the hours over bucket loads of martinis and beers and BBQ feasts. While you can still find the odd expat or two sitting at the wooden tables facing the street, now you are more likely to see local families, groups of Chinese and Japanese tourists and travelers from around the world tucking into massive plates of American-style ribs, juicy hamburgers and succulent pork chops.
Part of Naughty Nuri’s appeal lies in its laid-back and communal atmosphere. The rustic wooden tables are made for rubbing elbows with other hungry patrons, the large barbecue grill out front beckons people inside with its billowing clouds of aromatic smoke, and the food and drink specials and friendly vibes lure the crowds in almost every day of the week. The ribs here are legendary and are what put Nuri’s on the map; tender, fall-off-the-bone meat smothered in a smoky BBQ sauce and served with a side of fiery sambal.

A word of warning: Nuri’s gets insanely busy during peak lunch and dinner times. If you want to snag a table, it is best to go right around opening time or in mid-afternoon. You can also head to Nacho Mamas just down the road, which is owned by the same family and serves the exact same mouthwatering ribs and cuts of meat that Nuri’s is famous for.
