Sarong Restaurant & Lounge Bar, Bali
Seminyak and Kerobokan in Bali are jammed packed with excellent dining options from every price point, which will add kudos to the quality of Sarong Restaurant and Lounge Bar when I state that we dined there twice in as many days. I love to try new restaurants and seldom ever do we repeat on a holiday, but Sarong was worthy or breaking all the rules!
Opened in mid 2008, the restaurant has been creating quite the buzz with foodies the world over, including some worthy accolades; being named by Conde Nast Traveller, the World's Hottest New Restaurant in 2009. Which all helps of course, but the success of this restaurant rightly sits with its excellent cuisine. Chef Will Meyrick has created an Asian inspired menu that is impressive, his obvious first hand experience during travels has influenced his stunning cuisine.
We love Asian food, so it is really difficult to recommend to you the best that Sarong has to offer, but you must have for entrees the " crispy pork belly with baby mandarin, ginger, chilli and black vinegar caramel ", " soft shell crab with green mango, mint shallots, crushed peanuts with tamarind and chilli dressing ". For mains we loved the " tandoori butter chicken with cashew nuts, ginger and tomato sauce " , panang curry of wagyu beef cheek with chilli, Thai basil and crushed peanuts " finished off with the " ginger custard " completely not necessary but worthy of the calories.
The beverage list is equally as impressive as the cuisine, we tried and tested many of the selection, and ended up having a lesson with the head barman on how exactly they make, literally the best cocktail ever, the Sarong Smash. You could be fooled into thinking that it's ingredients of absolut citron, cointreau, fresh lime, orange, pink grapefruit and kaffir lime is the key to this heavenly treat, or how lovingly it is prepared by the skilled barmen, but in fact it is a wee scoop of frozen lemon sorbet that gives this drink its glory. Tastes just like lemon meringue pies, who is going to argue with that!
Sarong has fast become the place to be seen, impressive in a destination famed for it, a couple of high profile celebs were enjoying the flavours of the restaurant and its relaxing atmosphere along with 150 like minded foodies. Bookings are essential, and leave the little ones at home, unless they are older than 12. Our total bill at Sarong Restaurant & Lounge Bar averaged 1000000 IDR ( 110 USD ) per person, expected in such a fabulous place.
